Confirm the Dangerous-Goods Information in Your Safety Data Sheet
Section 14 of a Safety Data Sheet communicates important information about transporting the product. Depending on the classification, this may include its UN number, proper shipping name, transport class, packing group and environmental-hazard status.
This information should be consistent with the product’s composition, properties and hazards. However, transport entries may have been copied from an earlier document, inherited from a supplier or left unchanged following a reformulation.

When Should SDS Section 14 be Reviewed?
A review may be appropriate where different suppliers provide conflicting classifications, a product or raw material has changed, or a carrier, customer or SDS author has questioned the transport information.
It can also provide reassurance where a product is described as “not regulated for transport” but the basis for that conclusion is unclear.
Reviewing Section 14 before a shipment is challenged can help identify uncertainty while there is still time to resolve it.
How we Assess Section 14 Transport Information
Our review considers the relationship between Section 14 and relevant information elsewhere in the SDS. Depending on the product, this may include its CLP classification, composition, physical properties, toxicological information and environmental hazards.
We examine whether the stated UN entry and associated transport information appear appropriate, whether important information is missing and whether the document contains contradictions that require further investigation.
This is a technical consistency review – not simply a check that the expected fields have been completed.

The outcome may confirm that the existing transport information appears supported, identify corrections that can be made from the available evidence, or show that a fuller transport-classification assessment is required.
