Process safety is a critical consideration in industrial settings, and the latest peer-reviewed publication by Martyn Shenton, Principal Consultant at Blue Frog Scientific, showcases the company’s broad expertise in chemical hazard management. The article focuses on tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), a key monomer used in producing fluoropolymers such as PTFE. While TFE is classified as a Category 1B carcinogen, this study addresses another major concern: its decomposition hazard in oxygen-deficient environments.

The publication, available at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.psep.2025.107289, has been co-authored with the TFE Safety Task Force (part of the Fluoropolymer Product Group under Plastics Europe) and the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM). It evaluates the effectiveness of commercially developed flame arrestors designed for industrial use.

Martyn Shenton brings over two decades of experience to this topic, including over five years as Chairperson of the TFE Safety Task Force.
