Last month, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published an update on the evaluation of Ethanol, a key active substance under review with Greece serving as the evaluating competent authority. As this review progresses, the Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) is now assessing Ethanol's safety and efficacy based on comprehensive reports from Greek authorities.
These assessments are crucial as they determine Ethanol’s suitability across three main product types.
Product-Type 1
Human hygiene products, predominantly hand sanitisers, which have become household essentials.
Product-Type 2
Disinfectants and algaecides, crucial to ensure public safety in public and private spaces usually relating to disinfection of surfaces.
Product-Type 4
Much like PT02 but utilised in food and feed areas, in either domestic or commercial settings.
Understanding these categories and the associated regulatory evaluations helps stakeholders anticipate possible outcomes and prepare for changes in product formulations and marketing strategies.
As the regulatory landscape for biocidal substances like Ethanol evolves, Blue Frog Scientific is perfectly positioned to guide and support stakeholders through these changes. Our biocide regulatory expertise spans regulatory strategy, compliance audits, dossier compilation, and navigating the Analysis of Alternatives under new ECHA guidelines.
