New OECD nanomaterial decision frameworks

31 May 2019

On the 27th of May 2019 the OECD released new documents on the use and measuring of nanomaterial physical-chemical parameters. These are: Physical-Chemical Decision Framework to inform Decisions for Risk Assessment of Manufactured Nanomaterials' and 'Guiding Principles for measurements and reporting for nanomaterials: Physical Chemical Parameters'.

The documents are there to aid and inform the user about the most appropriate methodologies to apply  based on their nanotechnologies key physical-chemical characteristics and further how most appropriately to measure these characteristics to maintain the highest degree of certainty.

Blue Frog's Kai Paul and Damien Carson along with Claus Svendsen (Centre of Ecology and Hydrology) and Teresa Fernandes (Heriot-Watt University), were privileged to run a session on risk assessment frameworks and their developments days after the release of the aforementioned documents (30th May), at SETAC's Annual European Conference in Helsinki. Here we were delighted to have a contributor to these documents, Eric Bleeker of RIVM, talk the audience through the new guidance and framework and indicate how they should be used.
